Judges Association wants Mumias East MP Salasya arrested over threats to magistrate » Capital News

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 1 – The Kenya Judges and Magistrate’s Association has petitioned the Director of Public Prosecution to order for the arrest of Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya for threatening a magistrate based in Kakamega.

The Association through it’s president Derrick Kuto says police in Kakamega have not been able to arrest the MP despite a report being made to them.

He told a news press conference at Milimani Court through Association lawyer Danstan Omari that the office of the Director of Criminal Investigation has not acted to the threats issued by the Mp that it’s the incumbent upon the Inspector General of police to course the arrest of the MP.

They said the trade arose from an order issued by the magistrate for the MP to pay Sh500,000 arising from a civil suit in which the legislator lost.

SC Omari said if the Mp was aggreved by the decision of the magistrate should have appealed to the High Court .

The lawyers said the Association takes the threats very serious that the Mp is not above the law and should be immediately arrested and charged.

He also called upon the Ethics and Anti corruption Commission to invoke chapter 6 on the integrity of the public officer and course the MP to resign or be removed from Parliament..

Omari said in the recent past Magistrates have been threatened causing some to resign or fear in dispensation of justice.
