Talanta Hela U19: CS Ababu reveals international scouts will be in attendance


NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 4 – Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has revealed that international scouts from Spain and the United States will be in attendance at the Talanta Hela Under-19 tournament national finals which kicked off in Nairobi on Sunday.

Speaking during the opening ceremony at the Nyayo National Stadium, Namwamba said scouts from the Nastic Soccer Academy in Spain and the Monteverde Academy in Florida, United States will be around for the tournament.

“We have some of our players, who are currently with the national Under-18 team in those academies and we look forward to continuing that partnership. We will have Jose Manuel from the Nastic Academy in Spain coming in as well as representatives from Monteverde coming and I am looking forward to more players being scouted,” the CS said.

Aldrine Kibet, Moses Wanjala, Alvin Kasavuli and Ezekiel Nguwa who all starred at the National Secondary School ball games in August have been enrolled at the at Nastic Soccer Academy (NSA) in Tarragona, Spain while Luis Ingavi is at Monteverde Academy in Orlando, Florida.

The CS says he is looking forward to more players being given the opportunity at those prestigious institutions and remains confident that the talent on show at the Talanta Hela Under -19 tourney will be channeled towards improvement.

Namwamba has further said he is proud of the growth of the tournament, and believes it will be a channel for the growth of national team Harambee Stars in years to come.

“This is a journey that began on August 15th and I am delighted that we are here to see the national finals. We are looking forward to a good tournament, a brilliant display of skill and talent and above all, entertaining football,” Namwamba said.

At the same time, the CS said that the organizers, the Kenya Academy of Sports, have put in water tight measures to ensure that only players aged 19 and below participate in the tournament and cases of age cheating are dealt with.

The winners of the tournament will walk home with Sh5mn, with the final scheduled for Jamhuri Day at the Nyayo Stadium.
