KQ flight to Dubai executes turn back to Nairobi after discovery of tyre debris on JKIA runway » Capital News


NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 16 — Kenya Airways (KQ) turned back its flight to Dubai back to Nairobi Friday night over the airspace in Wajir after the discovery of trye debris on a runway at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The airline’s operations team ordered the turn back as a cautionary measure on discovery of the debris at 9.20pm, KQ said in a statement.

“Upon further inspection, the KQ operations team established that the tyre debris was from KQ 310, which had departed on a scheduled operation from Nairobi to Dubai,” the airline said in a statement.

“The crew followed the precautionary safety procedures in consultation with operations control and returned to Nairobi safely, landing at 11:46pm without incident,” it added.

The airline secured accommodation for passengers on board Flight KQ310 as it worked to rebook them on next available flight.

Capital News established the flight had been rescheduled for a 6pm departure on Sunday.

KQ emphasized that air turnbacks are standard safety procedures in aviation, key to the safety of passengers and crew.

Kenya Airways expressed regret for inconveniences caused to its passengers and assured customers that safety remains their top priority.

“We sincerely apologize to our guests for the inconvenience and assure our customers that their safety and that of our crew is our highest priority,” the airline said.
