Suspect in wife’s murder commits suicide in Mukurweini » Capital News

NYERI, Kenya, Feb 12 – A 35-year-old man whose wife was found murdered at Gakima village in Mukurweini two weeks ago has committed suicide while being held at Mukurweini police station.

Benson Maina Kamau a prime suspect in the murder committed suicide by hanging himself with a mattress sling in one of the toilets at the station cells.

Confirming the incident Nyeri county police boss Kipkorir Rotich said that Kamau was being held at the station together with another suspect when the incident occurred.

“The deceased had visited the station to record a statement over the death of his wife Nancy muthoni maina when he was locked up after investigations revealed that he was a person of interest.However on Sunday morning his body was found dangling with a mattress sling on the toilet ventration of the toilet cell” said Rotich.

Rotich said that police on duty discovered the body after they were alerted by other inmates in the cell.

Muthoni was found murdered by unknown persons two weeks ago with her body being dumped on the roadside.

She was then classified as unkowm person untill kamau resurfaced at the station and said she was his wife .

Rotich said that the deceased body was moved to Mukurweini police hospital awaiting postmortem.
