Tusker coach Robert Matano says he is not worried about the pressure of being at the top of the FKF Premier League table ahead of today’s highly anticipated match against on-form Wazito at Kasarani Annex.

The 11 time Kenyan champions, who have gone nine matches without losing since falling 2-1 to AFC Leopards in their opening game of the season. The brewers moved to the summit for the first time this campaign after beating Mathare United 1-0 last weekend.

Tusker are one point shy of second-placed KCB (22 points), who still have a game in hand and three points ahead of third-ranked Wazito.

But having previously won the titles with Sofapaka (2009) and Tusker (2012), Matano is determined to help the brewers end their four-year title drought.

“Pressure? There is no pressure at all, maybe someone else. I have been in that position for many years, so there is no pressure for me, I’m used to it. The title race is not going to be easy, but our plan is to take one game at a time,” Matano told Standard Sports.

“Of course it feels good to be at the top of the table because it will motivate us to continue working hard and hopefully keep the position.”

And with the likes of KCB, Wazito, AFC Leopards, Kariobangi Sharks and champions Gor Mahia breathing on their neck, Matano knows it will not be an easy task to reclaim the trophy his side last lifted in 2016.

Tusker players’ ultimate test of character and bravery will come today against Francis Kimanzi’s Wazito who have equally had a good run of form that has seen them win their last five matches in a row.

“But we are not yet there. Remember, other teams have played less matches, but I still believe we can make it. The league is a marathon and it is now up to us to work hard for it,” said Matano.
